Introduction

Welcome to Lantern Software, Inc. ("Company", "we", "our", "us", "Lantern")!

Lantern is an AI-powered documentation platform that transforms screen recordings and videos into structured, text-based guides enriched with metadata designed for human readers and AI support tools (the "Service").

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms", "Terms of Service") carefully before using our website and Service. These Terms govern your access to and use of Lantern's web application, browser extensions, hosted documentation sites, integrations, and related services.

Our Privacy Policy also governs your use of the Service and explains how we collect, safeguard, and disclose information resulting from your use of Lantern. Please review it carefully.

By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy (collectively, the "Agreements"). If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.


Definitions

  • Customer: The individual or legal entity that enters into these Agreements with Lantern.
  • Site Visitors: Users who visit Lantern's public website.
  • Free Users: Users accessing Lantern under a free plan with limited features.
  • Authorized Users: Individuals authorized by a Customer to access Lantern under a paid subscription.
  • Workspace: A Customer-controlled environment where guides, recordings, and content are created and managed.

Communications

By creating an account, you agree to receive service-related communications, including product updates, security notices, and administrative messages. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link or contacting us at support@uselantern.io.


Purchases

If you purchase any Lantern subscription or service ("Purchase"), you agree to provide accurate and complete billing information. You represent that you are authorized to use the payment method provided.

Lantern may use third-party payment processors. By submitting payment information, you authorize Lantern to share such information with these providers in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any Purchase due to errors, suspected fraud, or unauthorized transactions.


Subscriptions

Some parts of the Service are billed on a subscription basis ("Subscriptions"). Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring billing cycle (monthly or annually, depending on your selection).

Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled before the end of the current billing cycle. You may cancel through your account settings or by contacting support.

Failure to complete payment may result in suspension or termination of access to the Service.


Free Trials

Lantern may offer free trials at its discretion. If billing information is required, you will not be charged until the trial period ends. Unless canceled before the end of the trial, your Subscription will automatically convert to a paid plan.

Lantern reserves the right to modify or terminate free trials at any time.


Fee Changes

Lantern may modify Subscription fees with reasonable prior notice. Fee changes take effect at the start of the next billing cycle. Continued use of the Service after a fee change constitutes acceptance of the updated pricing.


Refunds

Except where required by law, Subscription fees are non-refundable.


Content

The Service allows you to upload, generate, store, and share documentation, recordings, text, images, metadata, and other materials ("Content").

  • Ownership

    • Free Users retain ownership of Content they submit.
    • Content created or submitted by Authorized Users is owned and controlled by the Customer.
  • Responsibility You are solely responsible for the legality, accuracy, and appropriateness of your Content.

  • License to Lantern You grant Lantern a limited, non-exclusive license to host, process, analyze, and display Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service.

Lantern does not claim ownership of Customer Content and does not monitor Content except as required to operate or secure the Service.


Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use the Service:

  • In violation of any applicable law or regulation
  • To infringe intellectual property rights
  • To upload malicious code, malware, or harmful content
  • To attempt unauthorized access to systems or data
  • To interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • To scrape, reverse engineer, or exploit the Service without authorization

Lantern reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.


Analytics

Lantern may use third-party analytics providers to monitor and improve the Service. Analytics data is used in accordance with our Privacy Policy.


Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and all activities under your account.

Lantern may suspend or terminate accounts that provide false information, violate these Terms, or pose security risks.


Intellectual Property

Except for Customer Content, the Service and all related technology, software, branding, and documentation are the exclusive property of Lantern Software, Inc. and its licensors.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or use Lantern intellectual property without prior written consent.


Copyright Policy (DMCA)

Lantern respects intellectual property rights and responds to valid copyright infringement claims under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

To submit a claim, email support@uselantern.io with:

  • A description of the copyrighted work
  • The location of the infringing material
  • Your contact information
  • A statement of good faith belief
  • A statement made under penalty of perjury

Feedback

Any feedback, suggestions, or ideas you submit to Lantern may be used by Lantern without restriction or compensation. You waive any intellectual property rights in such Feedback.


Third-Party Links and Integrations

The Service may contain links or integrations with third-party services. Lantern is not responsible for third-party content, policies, or practices. Use of third-party services is at your own risk.


Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranties of any kind. Lantern disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.


Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lantern shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages. Lantern's total liability shall not exceed the amount paid by you to Lantern in the preceding twelve (12) months.


Termination

Lantern may suspend or terminate access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms. Upon termination, provisions that by their nature should survive will remain in effect.


Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict of law principles.


Changes to the Service

Lantern may modify or discontinue the Service at any time without liability.


Amendments to Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.


Waiver and Severability

Failure to enforce any provision shall not constitute a waiver. If any provision is held invalid, the remaining provisions shall remain in effect.
